For the last 11 years we have been driven every day by our purpose: helping independent Makers and small businesses find their people and grow their business. The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting these businesses in an unprecedented way across the US and around the world. We’re connecting with a few of our Makers to elevate their stories and share the challenges they face. With these stories, we hope our community can see the impact of their support and how these businesses are foundational to our society.

We checked in with Paul Cira who heads things up at Proud Grill Company. From fireside to grillside tasks, these re-thought and smartened-up tools are made to tackle tasks better. After spending just a few minutes with Paul, his optimism for entrepreneurship was inspiring. A true maker to his core, Paul sees COVID-19 as another obstacle in growing his business.

The Grommet was one of the first to carry Proud Grill Company when it started in 2018. Paul has spent his whole career working with consumer goods, and has been an entrepreneur for 14 years.

As a seasonal business, Proud Grill Company is taking an extra hit this year. But despite uncertain and stressful times, Paul remains optimistic about the future for his and other small businesses.

“As a Maker You got to be really flexible in these times, test some different things, see what’s working and see what’s not.”

He left us with advice to his fellow Makers that can resonate with most folks these days. “Stay positive, stay the course. As Makers we’re all motivated and we are really able to overcome obstacles. And this is just another obstacle.”
